Are you looking for an intensive immersion or Arabic study abroad program? You've come to the right place. Founded in 2007, Qalam wa Lawh Center for Arabic Studies in Rabat, Morocco quickly earned a reputation for excellence and expertise in teaching Arabic as a foreign language.
Today, we are one of the largest and most trusted centers dedicated to Arabic language acquisition and cultural immersion activities in North Africa. Each year, more than 1200 students and professionals from around the world come to Qalam, not only to study in its year-round Arabic language program, but also to take advantage of immersion and volunteer activities which introduce them to Arab and Moroccan culture.
Al Qalam means the pen in Arabic. Al Lawh means the tablet. In the Arab world, the reed pen and tablet represent the traditional instruments of teaching which existed long before the modern pen and paper became commonplace. They call to mind a time when great scholars traveled throughout the world seeking knowledge of cultures, languages, histories and religions completely foreign to themselves.
At Qalam wa Lawh Center, we embrace tradition and the belief that language and knowledge are unifying forces which can be actively used to promote peace and coexistence.
Our state of the art facility is located in the heart of the urban Agdal neighborhood. Complete with a library, restaurant, residence halls, and four floors of classrooms, Qalam Center is the ideal place to study Arabic.
Off campus, you'll discover not only why Moroccan hospitality is so famous, but also why Morocco is rated one of the safest and most tourist-friendly countries in the world.
Each classroom is led by an experienced and enthusiastic native speaking Arabic teacher. Our teachers all hold advanced degrees in Arabic literature, Law, or Applied Linguistics. Some of our instructors are also former Fulbright scholars or have other international experience.
All of our teachers undergo three months of specialized training in teaching Arabic as a foreign language and an additional three months as a teacher's assistant before leading a class on their own. This training encourages teachers to work together as a community here at Qalam, as well as in their own endeavors. In fact, many of our teachers are also researchers and trainers in the field of Arabic study. With full-time status and years of experience and training, our teachers are here to provide our students with the best Arabic education possible.
